Super Tramp - Indelibly Stamped released June 25, 1971
This is their second studio album. But it was the first Supertramp album issued in the U.S. Their self-titled debut was eventually pressed in the U.S. in 1977.
Supposedly A&M pasted two gold stars over the nipples, but I couldn't find any sealed copies to corroborate that and there are a LOT for sale. The album was banned from a number of record stores in Australia, while others sold each copy inside a brown paper sleeve.
Marion Hollier was the Model on the front and she was paid £45 or about about $750 in todays money.
I have a theory as to why this slid under the radar and didn't cause much hoopla when it came out. First, supertramp wasn't well received and their albums didn't sell well, so no one really saw it or cared, but that can be negated by several other albums at the time that weren't well received and still caught flack for their artwork. I believe that most people thought it was a man on the front. Hear me out. Tattoos in the 70's were mostly for sailors and counter-culture and rarely for woman and even more rare in this amount. The pose is also not very feminine for the time, but what do I know?
